LIBERTY’S CRY

liberty's cry
There she stands out there alone, raising one hand toward heaven and the other grasping heaven’s law. She peers out seeking for those that desire her, and lights the way for those that dare abide. She radiates, compelling the hearts of mankind. Her beauty beckons all, and yet she cries out as those she has rescued abandon her ways. In the shadows behind her are plots taking root to unravel her dreams. She reflects on the heartache and the bloodshed of the lives that defended her, and she cries for her defenders today. Her light is now shining, searching for those that will respond and come to her aid. She can tell she is losing grip as determined erosion tears away at her foundation. Where will she exist if removed from where she is? Can she remain there unwanted? How could this happen where she has worked so hard? Liberty stands there looking, longing, crying out for her defenders.
Liberty’s only option is to turn to God’s people for defense. There is no other place that carries what is needed for her proliferation or expansion. God is the author of liberty, the creator and sustainer of freedom. He is the access to liberty, and His people are the propagators of its ways. It is the call of His people to further the cause of liberty. Yet, we see liberty’s light dimming on many fronts that causes great concern and questioning. Where are those God entrusted with liberty? Where are those that give themselves for a people to thrive in her care? What could be the distraction?
Defending and expanding liberty is our holy cause. It is the removal of spiritual enemies of Christ that distort truths to create bondage that shackles God’s people and nations from releasing further potential that brings Him glory. Meeting needs glorifies God in the hearts of an individual. Liberating nations glorifies God in the earth. Let it not be said that we would prefer one above the other, but let the hearts of free ones rise to liberate nations. The words in Isaiah 61 conveys the responsibility of the poor that have received the good news, the broken that have been healed, the captive that have been freed, and those that have had beauty come from ashes. Those are the ones that become the oaks of righteousness planted for His glory. This glory comes from the rebuilding of ruined cities. This responsibility cannot be left for the ones that have dead spirits, bound souls, and deceived understanding. Like the days when ancient boats approached our shores to ensure England’s hold, evil is gaining ground to clinch greater control. In those days, the Church was not merely meeting the needs of people. They fought on the fronts of prayer, debate, educating, exhorting, policy, and on the battlefields. They worked in an apostolic grace to set a foundation for a new nation. Let not those forefathers wear their voices out shouting from the past to a modern generation, pleading for them to not neglect the foundations of a nation.
As one private company, bank, insurance company after another is swallowed up by an out of control government, and healthcare is nationalized, we find ongoing attacks to silence opposition and discredit citizens to which the government is subject. May there not be those of a younger generation who stay silent! May those that are reclined in retirement rise one last time! Let those distracted by personal ambitions come to attention! This cannot be the fate of a nation established and principled on the law of Almighty God with “liberty for all” as a motto. I plead for us to see beyond the needs of individuals only and to the need of a nation. The broken are in the street and the forsaken cry out unheard when a nation is left to the control of tyranny.
The Church must reach its hand of compassion in its pastoral grace, and it must raise its hand in authority in its apostolic grace to preserve and further unleash liberty. The blood of forsaking a nation for personal security or promotion must not be on our hands. This is the epic challenge of our time, to push back tyranny and rebuild the supports of liberty. With Nehemiah as a standard, let us have a hammer in one hand and a sword in the other. This is the time to build and war for the sake of liberty. Let men and women, young and old, black and white, move as a force to reject and rescind the efforts of bondage and the slavery of a nation. Let not persecution or loss be a deterrent! We have tens of thousands that need aide and assistance, and yet, we have hundred of millions that do not deserve chains. May our cry be for God’s hand to act, and may our plea be for His people to arise. Forbid the day we see the muzzle of tyranny lock our jaw or the bit of government determine our path!
This is the people’s nation, under God, set forth in liberty and justice for all. Needs of individuals cannot overshadow liberty for the populace. If we hand over liberty, we deny the needs of people. For the sake of liberty, we must set our aim on the nation’s need for patriots, not a person’s need for a hand out. We cannot lose sight of this. God has released a fresh apostolic grace in this hour of history to enable a people to sure up the foundations again. We cannot remain centered on the need of individuals alone. Another generation must not be allowed to pass shrugging off the responsibility to apply God’s covenant to all aspects of national life. Our engagement must be determined to lengthen the path of liberty and the retardant to tyranny. Let us not forsake the future by not acting today. And let us not dishonor the past by folding our hands in self preservation. This is the moment of our battle. This is our day on the wall. This is not for someone else in some other time. This is each person’s moment to determine how you will respond to liberty’s cry!
